OUR MISSION

At Trace the Lace, we are dedicated to advocating for crucial reforms to ensure that law enforcement agencies investigate every aspect of our children's laced drug overdoses. Our mission is clear: to hold those accountable for poisoning our loved ones and bringing justice for their deaths.

Growth of overdose deaths in Ottawa.

The Facts:

  1. In the first four weeks of 2024, there were 22 deaths in Ottawa from suspected drug overdoses.

  2. Sandy Hill Community Health Centre reported a noticeable increase in overdoses onsite—85 overdoses in November 2023, up from 14 overdoses in November 2022.

  3. There is a new drug in Ottawa, Xylazine, a tranquillizer used for horses. This drug does not respond to Narcan.

The Facts:

  1. Between January 2, 2023, and January 29, 2023, there were 263 emergency department visits because of suspected drug overdoses, with 26 deaths.

  2. July 2023 saw the highest number of confirmed opioid overdose-related emergency department visits in three years.

  3. After July 2023,  the number of emergency department visits for suspected drug overdoses declines and spikes in the first week of December 2023.
